🍎 Whole Baked Cinnamon Apples (Air Fryer Edition)
A Simple Grace from the Winter’s Hush Kitchen
By Paper Pleasures – The Art of Gathering Series
Introduction: Where Stillness Meets Sweetness
When the air turns crisp and the world outside hushes under the weight of another season, small rituals bring us comfort.
This is one of them — whole baked cinnamon apples, done in your air fryer in under twenty minutes.
They taste like something your grandmother made on a wood stove, yet they fit neatly into the rhythm of our busy, modern days.
It’s the kind of recipe that fills your home with the scent of cinnamon and memory — a reminder that grace doesn’t need grand gestures. Sometimes, it’s as simple as an apple, a spoon of brown sugar, and a moment of stillness.
🍏 Ingredients
-
4 small firm apples (Gala, Fuji, or Honeycrisp work beautifully)
-
2 Tbsp melted butter (or coconut oil, if you prefer dairy-free)
-
2 Tbsp brown sugar or pure maple syrup
-
1 tsp ground cinnamon
-
¼ tsp nutmeg (optional, but warmly recommended)
-
Pinch of sea salt
-
¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional crunch)
-
¼ cup raisins, cranberries, or chopped dates (for rustic sweetness)
-
½ tsp vanilla extract
-
Non-stick spray or a dab of butter for the air fryer basket
🕯️ Directions
1. Prepare the Apples
Wash and core each apple, leaving a small base at the bottom so the filling stays inside.
You’re not carving — you’re coaxing open a heart.
2. Mix the Filling
In a small bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and salt.
Add your nuts and fruit if desired. The mixture should smell like autumn’s perfume.
3. Fill and Arrange
Spoon the filling into the hollow of each apple. Don’t be afraid if it spills over — that caramelized edge is pure gold.
4. Air Fry
Place apples upright in a lightly greased air fryer basket.
Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 15–20 minutes, until the skin is tender and glossy but the fruit still holds its shape.
If the tops brown too fast, lay a small piece of foil loosely across them.
5. Serve Warm
Drizzle any syrup from the basket over the tops.
Serve with a spoonful of whipped cream, a dollop of Greek yogurt, or a drizzle of heavy cream.
